Creating identity through costuming
Creating clothes has always been near and dear to my heart. The love for crafting garments started out small scale, with me creating clothes and costumes for my dolls as a child. As I got older, I realised that I didn't have to limit myself to dressing up dolls, but that I could create my own favourite version of myself through clothing. As a young adult with a flair for the dramatic, this was simply an opportunity to good to pass up. Over the years, I have used costuming and fashion to develop not only my construction and design skills, but also my identity.
Over my time studying towards a bachelor's degree in Costume Interpretation with Design, I grew to love to both research and create historical and contemporary garments, as well as hats and costumes. My goal is always to create costumes to the highest possible standard, and provide the wearer with a costume that makes them confident and happy. I strongly believe that clothing, and historical clothing in particular, is a powerful way of connecting both to the past and to ourselves.
Through the art of costuming I can create not only clothes, but stories that are spun into the garments. From drawing board to sewing machine, the process of designing and sewing a costume is always a learning experience, making it a highly rewarding experience every time.
